Safe Jewish Workplaces

Instructor: Simon Feil, Ta’amod: Stand Up!

How do we foster safe, equitable and accountable organizations?
How do we intrinsically reduce the risk of abuse, harassment and discrimination?
How do we respond with empathy and action when they do happen?
How do we create lasting systemic change in our communities?

Building and maintaining psychologically safe, equitable, and accountable cultures is imperative to our resilience: both as individual professionals and as Jewish organizations. We need behavioral shifts that cultivate organizational transparency and address the power dynamics continually at play but rarely named. In this class (which is legally compliant for all states that require harassment prevention training!), Simon Feil from Ta’amod: Stand Up! will help you gain a deep understanding of psychological safety in the workplace, explore universal themes around respect and equity through a lens of Jewish wisdom, and offer tangible tools to bring back to your organization.

This class is for you if:

  • You work for a Jewish organization of any kind: congregation, day school, JCC, non-profit, etc.
  • You want to gain tangible practices for building a positive, psychologically safe organizational culture.
  • You want to know you and your colleague’s employee rights in regard to discrimination and harassment.
  • You want to learn best practices and what to avoid to show up as your best self professionally and help others do the same.
  • You want to be an active change maker in the evolution of organizational culture in the Jewish community.

By the end of this class you will:

  • Understand your rights as an employee vis-a-vis policies, reporting and protected classes.
  • Understand your role as a colleague in becoming an active bystander for others and be familiar with models and approaches for intervention.
  • Have a framework and toolkit for giving and receiving feedback.
  • Understand key markers of and barriers to psychological safety.
  • Be familiar with the continuum of behavior in organizational culture.
