Have you ever tried to give constructive feedback to a colleague that didn’t go well? How does giving feedback across differences - generational, cultural, structural power - complicate the situation?
Research demonstrates that psychological safety is a critical factor in fostering healthy and high functioning organizational cultures. Giving and receiving feedback in a productive and respectful way can be complicated by difference - whether that is intergenerational or cross-cultural. In this session we will examine the impact of identity and power dynamics on the practice of giving and receiving feedback in the workplace.
Together we will:
- Explore frameworks for understanding the different aspects of psychological safety
- Examine the role of both positive and constructive feedback in fostering healthy organizational cultures
- Workshop challenging feedback scenarios and unpack the ways that cultural and generational differences can complicate communication
- Use role play in small groups to practice applying the SBI model of giving and receiving feedback using real life examples and build skills to apply it in your own organizational settings
